ARC Review~ The Hearts We Sold

The Hearts We Sold was a book that exceeded my expectations, with twists I didn't see coming. However I had minor complications as a reader getting into the read at the beginning. It turned out to be a great read with some loved characters.

I enjoyed the uniqueness of the story, The Hearts We Sold not only felt new, but it incorporated elements we don't always see in YA novels. I liked the twist this story included. I expected this book to be about occults and chants, and constantly selling and bargaining with demons. That's definitely not what this story had for its readers and it was a nice bonus. The atmosphere of the story also held for a good read, there were stakes involved for the reader's and not everyone was safe. The Hearts We Sold also had an unexpected ending, that I ended up loving.

The issue I had with this novel was the flow of the story at the beginning. I felt like the beginning chapters jumped to so many different aspects of the books that I often found myself rereading passages and sorting myself out. It lead to me being uninterested and not caring until halfway through the book.

I did like the characters as well, we saw development with the main protagonist as well with some the side characters. The characters and premise of the storyline were the things keeping me invested in the read and always wanting more.

Overall The Hearts We Sold was an easy read to accomplish with minor mishaps that worked out by the end of the novel. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy contemporary reads, because the book doesn't branch out too far from reality.
